Contributions to the dihedral effect.
| Source | Contribution | Depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Geometric dihedral | Stabilising | The dihedral angle |
| Wing sweep | Stabilising | Sweep angle and lift coefficient |
| High wing position | Stabilising | Fuselage interference |
| Anhedral | Destabilising | The anhedral angle |
Which contribution varies with the aeroplane's speed?
Answer: A
The sweep contribution depends on the difference in lift between the two wings, which grows as the whole wing works harder. A swept wing aeroplane therefore feels much more strongly stable in roll on the approach than in cruise.
