Role of a teacher in 'reciprocal teaching' is characterized by :
Answer: A
In reciprocal teaching the teacher's role shows a shift from being a support and guide towards gradual release of responsibility to the students.
Reciprocal teaching, developed by Palincsar and Brown for reading comprehension, uses four strategies: predicting, questioning, clarifying and summarising. The teacher first models them and leads the dialogue, then hands the leader's role to students in turn, withdrawing support as they become able to use the strategies themselves. This is scaffolding in Vygotsky's sense.
The teacher is neither a mere recipient of student suggestions nor a passive observer, since she models and guides at the start, and she is not the sole authority, because the method is built on shared dialogue.
