If a line is drawn between points (1, 5) and (−3, 5), then its absolute length would be :
Answer: C
The length is four units.
Use the distance formula:
\[ \begin{aligned} d &= \sqrt{(1 - (-3))^{2} + (5 - 5)^{2}} \\ &= \sqrt{16 + 0} = 4 \end{aligned} \]
Both points have y = 5, so the line is horizontal and its length is simply the difference of the x-coordinates, 1 minus (-3), which is 4. Two units comes from subtracting 3 from 1 instead of adding, and five units comes from confusing the length with the y-coordinate.
