Discussion
Seven persons A, B, C, D, E, F and G are standing in a straight line.
D is to the right of G.
C is between A and B.
E is between F and D.
There are three persons between G and B. Who is on the extreme left ?
Answer: C
G is on the extreme left.
There are three people between G and B, so they are 5 places apart, and D is somewhere to the right of G. Try G in position 1 and B in position 5. C must be next to B with A on its other side, which forces B, C, A into positions 5, 6, 7. That leaves positions 2, 3, 4 for F, E and D, with E in the middle:
| 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 |
| G | F | E | D | B | C | A |
Every condition holds: D is right of G, C is between A and B, E is between F and D, and three people separate G and B. Trying B on the left of G fails: the B, C, A block and the F, E, D block cannot both fit. So G is at the extreme left, which rules out A, B and D.
