Discussion
Consider the following statements about structural usage monitoring:
1. Recorded loads can be compared against the assumed design spectrum.
2. An aircraft flown harshly may need shortened inspection intervals.
3. Usage monitoring removes the need for scheduled inspection.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: B
The first two are correct. The third overstates what monitoring does: it informs the inspection programme and can adjust its intervals, but damage tolerance still depends absolutely on finding cracks by inspection before they become critical.
