Consider the following statements about control arrangements:
1. A stabilator uses the whole surface as the control.
2. An anti-servo tab increases the stick force.
3. A servo tab increases the stick force.
Which of the statements given above is or are correct?
Answer: A
Correct answer: 1 and 2 only
The first two are correct: a stabilator uses the whole surface as the control, and an anti-servo tab increases the stick force.
The third reverses the servo tab's function. A servo tab deflects opposite to the surface, driving it aerodynamically and reducing the force the pilot must apply - it is fitted where a surface is too heavy. The two tabs are named for what they do, and confusing them inverts the design intention in both cases.
