Which one of the following is correct Taylor’s tool life expression?
Answer: B
Taylor's tool life equation is vTn = C.
Here v is the cutting speed, T the tool life, n an exponent that depends mainly on the tool material (about 0.1 to 0.15 for HSS, 0.2 to 0.5 for carbides) and C a constant, equal to the cutting speed that gives a tool life of one minute. Raising the speed shortens tool life steeply.
The other forms put the exponent on the wrong quantity or swap the variables round: in Tvn = C and Cvn = T the power belongs to the speed, which does not match Taylor's empirical result. Since one option is correct, 'None of these' is wrong.
