What should the configuration register value be after you successfully complete the password recovery procedure and return the router to normal operation?

Correct answer: 0x2102
Password recovery sets the register to 0x2142 so the router boots ignoring NVRAM and therefore ignoring the forgotten password. Once the configuration has been loaded and the password reset, the register must be returned to 0x2102 with config-register 0x2102 and the configuration saved - otherwise the router will keep ignoring its startup configuration on every reload, which is precisely the fault described in item 27926.
