Which element of a layout should generally dominate the sheet?
Answer: A
Correct answer: the map face itself
The map is what the reader came for; the title, legend, scale and credits exist to make it usable. A sheet where the marginalia compete with or overwhelm the map face has inverted its own purpose. The practical rule is to give the map face the largest share of the sheet and design the supporting elements to be found when wanted rather than to be noticed first.
