Discussion
Match each performance measure with what it compares.
List I
A. Conversion
B. Yield
C. Selectivity
D. Extent of reaction
List II
1. desired product to undesired product
2. reactant consumed to reactant fed
3. moles reacted divided by the stoichiometric coefficient
4. desired product formed to the theoretical maximum
Answer: D
Each answers a different question, and quoting one where another is meant misstates the performance of a reactor. Conversion can be high while selectivity is poor, which is the situation a designer most wants to avoid.
