Pneumatic conveying regimes.
| Regime | Air velocity (m/s) | Solids loading | Product damage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dilute phase | 18 to 25 | Low | High |
| Dense phase | 3 to 8 | High | Low |
| Below saltation | Under 3 | Any | Line blocks |
Which regime suits a fragile product that must be conveyed pneumatically?
Answer: A
Damage in pneumatic conveying comes chiefly from impact at bends, and impact energy rises with the square of velocity. Dense phase moves the material slowly as a plug and is far gentler, at the cost of higher pressure equipment.
