Put the steps of finding an inverse by the adjoint method in order.
1. Transpose the cofactor matrix to obtain the adjoint 2. Divide the adjoint by the determinant 3. Evaluate the determinant and confirm it is non-zero 4. Compute the cofactor of every element
Answer: B
Checking the determinant first avoids wasted work on a singular matrix, then the cofactors are found, transposed into the adjoint, and finally divided through. Omitting the transposition is the commonest error in the sequence.
