Which of the following is NOT an atmospheric property?
Answer: B
Correct answer: Effective stack height
The effective stack height is a property of the source, not of the atmosphere: it is the physical stack height plus the plume rise, and both depend on the design of the stack and the temperature and velocity of the gas leaving it.
The other three describe the atmosphere. The Pasquill class summarises its turbulent state, the mixing height is the depth available for dilution, and the environmental lapse rate is the measured temperature profile. Keeping source and atmospheric terms apart is the basic organising idea of dispersion modelling, since only the source terms can be engineered.
