Which of the following is an example of intrinsic motivation ?
Answer: B
The example of intrinsic motivation is playing a musical instrument for personal enjoyment.
Intrinsic motivation means doing something because the activity itself is satisfying, interesting or enjoyable. Someone who plays music for the pleasure of playing needs no outside reward.
The other three are extrinsic: completing a project to impress the teacher seeks approval, studying to avoid a scolding avoids punishment, and entering a competition for prize money seeks a material reward. In each case the reason lies outside the activity.
