Which of the following correctly describes extrinsic motivation ?
Answer: A
Extrinsic motivation is motivation that comes from environmental consequences.
Extrinsically motivated behaviour is done for an outcome separate from the activity itself: rewards such as grades, praise, prizes or money, or avoiding punishment. These consequences come from the environment, outside the person.
The other three options all describe intrinsic motivation, where the activity is its own reward. A sense of personal satisfaction, enjoyment of the task and internal factors such as curiosity and interest come from within the learner, which is why they are the opposite of extrinsic motivation.
