After choosing a predefine template, ….. option has to be chosen to change a background color

A design template arrives with a set of coordinated colours. To change the background without abandoning the template, open Format → Slide Design → Color Schemes and pick another scheme, or edit the background colour within it. Choosing a different design template would replace the whole look.
