In MS Word, which keyboard shortcut applies bold formatting to selected text?
Answer: A
Correct answer: Ctrl + B
Ctrl + B applies bold, and the mnemonic is straightforward: B for bold. The three basic character-formatting shortcuts belong together: Ctrl + B for bold, Ctrl + I for italic and Ctrl + U for underline. Each is a toggle, so pressing it again removes the formatting. The distractors are all real shortcuts doing something else. Ctrl + D opens the Font dialogue box, which offers the same formatting with far more options. Ctrl + O opens an existing document, and Ctrl + G opens Go To. Two related shortcuts are worth knowing alongside these: Ctrl + Shift + C and Ctrl + Shift + V copy and paste formatting rather than content, which is the keyboard equivalent of the Format Painter. And Ctrl + Spacebar strips character formatting back to the default.
