In MS Word, which of these describes a bulleted list?
Answer: A
Correct answer: Items marked with symbols, where order does not matter
A bulleted list marks each item with a symbol - a dot, dash, square or custom character - and is used where the items have no inherent order. A numbered list is the counterpart for items that do have an order: steps in a procedure, ranked results, clauses to be referred to by number. Choosing between them is a matter of meaning rather than appearance. Word renumbers a numbered list automatically when an item is inserted or deleted, which is the practical reason for using the feature rather than typing numbers by hand. Tab demotes an item to a sub-level and Shift + Tab promotes it, with the bullet or numbering style changing at each level. A multilevel list gives numbering such as 1.1 and 1.2, and can be tied to Heading styles so that section numbers appear throughout a report and update themselves. AutoFormat starts a list automatically when a line begins with an asterisk or the numeral 1 followed by a full stop.
