The 2023 Manipur crisis involved the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities.
Ethnic violence broke out in May 2023 between the Meitei majority of the Imphal valley and the Kuki-Zo tribal communities of the surrounding hills, triggered by a court direction on Scheduled Tribe status for the Meiteis. Hundreds were killed and tens of thousands displaced.
The Nagas, Assamese and Garos were not the parties to this conflict.
