In the given circuit, find the current through \(5\ \Omega\) resistor using the superposition principle.
Answer: A
Superposition: take each source alone.
With only the 10 V source acting, the current source is replaced by an open circuit and the 5 ohm resistor is across the 10 V source.
\[ I_1 = \frac{10}{5} = 2\ \text{A} \]
With only the 1 A source acting, the voltage source is replaced by a short circuit, which is directly across the 5 ohm resistor, so the whole of the 1 A flows in the short and the current in the resistor is \(I_2 = 0\).
\[ I = I_1 + I_2 = 2 + 0 = 2\ \text{A} \]
The answer is 2 A, option A. Because the voltage source is in parallel with the resistor, the resistor voltage is fixed at 10 V whatever the current source does.
