How many 3’s are there in the following sequence which is neither preceded by nor immediately followed by 9?
9 3 6 6 3 9 5 9 3 7 8 9 1 6 3 9 6 3 9
Answer: D
Correct answer: None of these
Every 3 in the list either has a 9 immediately before it or a 9 immediately after it: the 3s at the second, fifth, ninth, fifteenth and eighteenth places are all disqualified on one count or the other. Not one of them survives both tests, so the answer is none of these - there are no such 3s at all.
