Find the wrong number in the series 380, 188, 92, 48, 20, 8, 2
Answer: C
The wrong number is 48.
Each term is obtained from the one before it by subtracting 4 and then halving:
\[ \begin{aligned} (380 - 4) \div 2 &= 188 \\ (188 - 4) \div 2 &= 92 \\ (92 - 4) \div 2 &= 44 \\ (44 - 4) \div 2 &= 20 \\ (20 - 4) \div 2 &= 8 \\ (8 - 4) \div 2 &= 2 \end{aligned} \]
The term after 92 should be 44, not 48. Every other term, including 20, 8 and 2, follows from 44 by the same rule, so 20, 92 and 2 are all correct members of the series.
