The next number is 1280. Each term is four times the one before: \[ 5\times 4 = 20 \] \[ 20\times 4 = 80 \] \[ 80\times 4 = 320 \] \[ 320\times 4 = 1280 \] The other options 600, 900 and 1180 do not follow from multiplying by 4, and the ratio of consecutive terms in the printed part of the series is fixed at 4, so any answer not equal to 1280 breaks the pattern.
