Select the number from among the given options that can replace the question mark (?) in the following series. 50, 62, 86, 122, 170, ?

The missing term is 230. The differences between successive terms are 12, 24, 36 and 48, so each difference is 12 more than the one before. The next difference is therefore 60.
\[ 62-50=12,\ 86-62=24,\ 122-86=36,\ 170-122=48 \]
\[ 170+60=230 \]
The option 225 would need a difference of 55, 240 a difference of 70 and 250 a difference of 80. None of these continues the steady rise of 12, so only 230 fits the series.
