Discussion
Given below are two statements:
Statement I : The number 1 is a prime number.
Statement II : The number 2 is NOT a prime number.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below:
Answer: B
Both Statement I and Statement II are false.
A prime number has exactly two distinct positive factors, 1 and itself.
1 has only one positive factor, so it is not prime; Statement I is false. 2 has exactly two factors, 1 and 2, so it is prime (the only even prime); Statement II, which says 2 is not prime, is also false.
Both statements reverse a basic fact, so every option calling either of them true is wrong.
