To generate tidal power, the tidal range should be .......... meters and the basin should have considerable size.
Answer: D
The tidal range should be more than 5 metres.
A tidal power station traps water in a basin at high tide and lets it out through turbines at low tide. The energy available depends on the square of the tidal range, so only sites with a large range, generally above about 5 m, and a large enclosable basin are economical. La Rance in France (range up to about 13 m) and the Gulf of Kachchh and Gulf of Khambhat in India are examples.
Ranges of 1-4 m produce too little head to make a tidal barrage worthwhile.
