Rate of consolidation :
Answer: C
The rate of consolidation increases with increase in temperature.
Consolidation is the slow squeezing of water out of a saturated clay, and its rate depends on the coefficient of consolidation, which is proportional to the permeability. As temperature rises, the viscosity of water falls, so water flows out more easily, the permeability increases and consolidation proceeds faster.
So the rate is neither independent of temperature nor faster at lower temperature. It is also strongly affected by permeability, which is the very property that controls it.
