A started a business with ₹ 1,40,000 and after 5 months, B joined A as his partner. After a year, the profit is divided in the ratio 2 : 3. What was B's contribution in the capital ?
Answer: C
B's contribution was ₹ 3,60,000.
Profit is shared in the ratio of capital multiplied by time. A's money was in for 12 months, and B's for 7 months (joining after 5):
\[ \begin{aligned} \frac{140000 \times 12}{B \times 7} &= \frac{2}{3} \\ 14B &= 3 \times 1680000 \\ B &= 360000 \end{aligned} \]
Check: 1,40,000 × 12 = 16,80,000 and 3,60,000 × 7 = 25,20,000, which are in the ratio 2 : 3. Ignoring the time would give ₹ 2,10,000, which is not an option.
