Discussion
Consider the following pairs of aircraft type and its typical thrust-to-weight ratio:
Long-range transport - About 0.25 to 0.30
Air superiority fighter - About 0.9 to 1.1
Light general aviation twin - About 0.3
Sailplane - About 0.5
How many of the pairs given above are correctly matched?
Answer: B
The first three are the usual figures, and the spread between a transport and a fighter is the single most striking feature of the comparison. A sailplane has no installed thrust at all, so no meaningful ratio exists for it.
