According to the 2011 census of Madhya Pradesh, consider the following statements and mention the correct statements :

(a) In terms of urban area the lowest female literacy rate is in Sheopur and the highest in Seoni.
(b) Mandla district has the largest proportion of rural population.
(c) The female literacy rate in Madhya Pradesh has increased by 8.9% in the last decade.
Answer: B
The keyed answer is Statements (a) and (c) are correct.
Statement (b) is the one that can be checked: Census 2011 district tables put Dindori at the bottom of Madhya Pradesh in urban share (about 4.6 per cent), which makes Dindori, not Mandla, the district with the largest proportion of rural population. So (b) is wrong, and options A, C and D, which all contain it, are out.
Statement (c) fits the decade figures: female literacy rose from about 50.3 per cent in 2001 to about 59.2 per cent in 2011 in one commonly used table, a gain of 8.9 points (some sources give 60 per cent for 2011 and a 9.7 point gain, so the figure depends on the table). What could not be confirmed is statement (a), the district extremes of urban female literacy, so it is accepted on the official key.
