Why is class A operation inefficient?
Answer: C
The quiescent current flows continuously, so the stage dissipates its maximum with no output at all and efficiency rises only as the signal approaches full swing. Dissipation falls rather than rises with output, the conduction angle is the largest rather than the smallest, and no transformer is necessarily present. A stage that consumes the same power whether or not it is doing anything is inefficient by construction, and that is what class B was devised to escape. Working one numerical case through both cases side by side fixes the distinction better than any rule of thumb.
