A card is drawn from a well-shuffled deck of playing cards. What is the probability that the card drawn is a 10 or a red king?
Answer: C
The probability is \(\frac{3}{26}\).
A deck of 52 cards has four 10s and two red kings (hearts and diamonds). These cards do not overlap, so the favourable outcomes simply add.
\[ P = \frac{4 + 2}{52} = \frac{6}{52} = \frac{3}{26} \]
\(\frac{1}{13}\) counts only the 10s, \(\frac{1}{26}\) counts only the red kings, and \(\frac{2}{13}\) counts all four kings instead of the two red ones.
