The ratio of Mother's age to the Son's age is 11:6. Five years ago the Mother's age was double the age of the Son. How many times the Son's age will the Mother's age be twenty years from now?
Answer: D
Twenty years from now the mother will be 1.5 times the son's age.
Let the present ages be 11x and 6x.
\[ \begin{aligned} 11x - 5 &= 2(6x - 5) \\ 11x - 5 &= 12x - 10 \\ x &= 5 \end{aligned} \]
So the mother is 55 and the son 30 now. In twenty years they will be 75 and 50.
\[ \frac{75}{50} = 1.5 \]
Check: five years ago they were 50 and 25, and 50 is double 25. The other options come from using the wrong time, for example 2 times is the ratio five years ago.
