If the selling price of a cooler is ₹ 11,200 and profit is 12 percent, then the purchase price of the cooler is
Answer: D
The purchase price is ₹ 10,000.
A profit of 12 per cent means the selling price is 112 per cent of the cost price:
\[ \begin{aligned} \text{CP} &= \frac{11200 \times 100}{112} \\ &= 10000 \end{aligned} \]
Check: 12 per cent of 10,000 is 1,200, and 10,000 + 1,200 = 11,200. The trap is to take 12 per cent of the selling price instead of the cost price; 9,000, 9,500 and 9,600 all give profits that are not 12 per cent of their own cost.
