A square prism of 30 mm base side with its axis inclined at 30 degrees to the horizontal plane has an axis whose plan length, for a 70 mm axis, is about
Answer: D
Correct answer: 60.6 mm
A line inclined to the horizontal plane projects into the plan foreshortened by the cosine of that inclination: \[ 70 \cos 30^\circ = 70 \times 0.866 = 60.6\ \mathrm{mm}. \] Using the sine instead gives 35 mm, which would be the height the axis rises rather than the length it covers on plan.
