Consider the following statements about modern bleaching.
1. Elemental chlorine has been largely replaced by chlorine dioxide.
2. Oxygen and peroxide stages are used before the dioxide stages.
3. Bleaching increases the yield of pulp.
Answer: A
The first two are correct and describe elemental chlorine free bleaching. The third is wrong, since bleaching removes further material and always costs a little yield. Brightness is bought at the price of some material.
