The object of ............. of punishment is to make incapacitation of criminal and denies him ability and an opportunity to commit further crime.
Answer: A
This is the object of the preventive theory.
The preventive theory aims to prevent the offender from repeating the crime by disabling him: imprisonment, transportation, death or the forfeiture of a licence takes away his ability and opportunity to offend again. Incapacitation is its defining method.
The deterrent theory aims to frighten the offender and others away from crime by the example of punishment. The reformative theory seeks to change the offender's character and return him to society, and the retributive theory sees punishment as the just desert of the wrongdoer, an end in itself.
