What did the young woman who was hearing the complaints do ?

The young woman kept her cool.
The passage says she 'kept cool and smiled all the time' even though some of the women were very abusive, and directed each of them to the right department with poise.
Being sad, impatient or very angry is the opposite of the calm the passage describes.
