According to the villagers, they found the pots broken and the fermented water missing, and the elephants sleeping, and said that the elephants consumed the fermented water and got drunk. So the elephants drank the fermented water, broke the pots and slept for hours, option (D). Each of the other options names only part of this, for example that they slept or that they broke the pots, so it does not tell everything that all the elephants had done.
