What does the phrase "drawing blood" in paragraph 1 refer to ?
Answer: C
'Drawing blood' refers to attacking each other, that is, coming to actual fighting.
The first paragraph calls the Himalayan standoff 'the closest both countries came to drawing blood in over three decades'. Used of a confrontation between armies, the phrase means the point at which shooting or physical clashes begin, and the passage says the two sides came as near to that as they had in thirty years.
It is a figure of speech here, so a medical incision is not meant, anger alone is not meant, and the passage is not comparing combat ability.
