The International Energy Agency's Renewables 2023 report shows solar photovoltaics accounting for by far the largest share of renewable capacity added worldwide in recent years, about three-quarters of the additions in 2023, well ahead of wind.
Wind is second, while geothermal and ocean energy add only small amounts of capacity.
Solar's lead comes from steep falls in the cost of panels, which have made it the cheapest source of new electricity in many countries.
