When News stories where paragraphs are written in order of descending importance, and then using a transitional paragraph, introduces the rest of the story chronologically, what is the style called ?
Answer: C
The style is the Hour glass style.
The hourglass structure, described by Roy Peter Clark, opens like an inverted pyramid with the most important facts in descending order. Then a transitional paragraph, the 'turn', often with a line such as 'police gave this account', leads into a chronological narrative of the rest of the story. The shape is wide at the top, narrow at the turn and wide again in the narrative.
A pure inverted pyramid never switches to chronology, a chronological story starts at the beginning instead of with the most important fact, and a news feature usually opens with an anecdote or scene.
