If the standard deviation of population is 9, the population variance is :
Answer: D
The population variance is 81.
The variance is the square of the standard deviation:
\[ \sigma^{2} = 9^{2} = 81 \]
The other options come from common slips: 9 repeats the standard deviation, 3 is its square root, and 21 has no basis in the calculation. Remember that the standard deviation is the square root of the variance, so going from standard deviation to variance means squaring.
