Which method is used for detailed exploration of oil and gas ?
Answer: C
Detailed oil and gas exploration uses the Seismic reflection method.
Reflection seismics images the subsurface layer by layer, mapping structures such as anticlines, faults and stratigraphic traps that can hold hydrocarbons to depths of several kilometres, with a resolution of tens of metres. Three-dimensional surveys are standard before drilling.
Gravity and magnetic methods are used for regional reconnaissance, to outline sedimentary basins and basement structure, but they cannot resolve individual traps. Electrical resistivity cannot reach reservoir depths and is used in wells as a logging tool instead.
