Select the grammatically correct sentence:
1. I hope you will excuse my leaving early.
2. I hope you will excuse me leaving early.
3. I hope you will excuse mine leaving early.
4. I hope you will excuse leaving early.
Answer: A
It is sentence 1.
Excuse takes a possessive before the gerund - excuse my leaving. The object form me is common in speech but the possessive is the careful form, and mine is a pronoun that cannot precede a noun.
