Which of the following would be the THIRD sentence after rearrangement?
Answer: E
Correct answer: C
The THIRD sentence of the rearranged paragraph is C.
Correct sequence: F – A – C – E – B – D
How the paragraph builds:
- F is a fragment - contrary to popular concepts of a predominantly rural India - so it must attach to a main clause.
- A supplies it: a larger percentage now lives in urban areas.
- C gives the comparison: India’s urban population is second largest after China.
- E continues that comparison with and is higher than.
- B opens the growth figures: over fifty years the national population grew 2.5 times.
- D completes the contrast: in urban areas it grew five times.
Three of the six sentences are fragments - F, E and D - and each has to be attached to the clause it depends on, which fixes the whole order.
