Direction : Read the following four sentences and rearrange them to make a coherent and logical paragraph.
1. Some money had to be sent to my parents.
2. After that, I spent almost an hour at the Post Office.
3. Therefore, I went to bank to withdraw some money.
4. However, I had no money with me.
Which sentence should come third in the paragraph ?
Answer: C
The third sentence is 3.
The connecting words give the order. Sentence 1 states the need: money had to be sent to the parents. Sentence 4, opening with 'However', states the obstacle: there was no money at hand. Sentence 3, opening with 'Therefore', gives the response: a trip to the bank to withdraw money. Sentence 2, 'After that', ends the story at the post office, where the money is sent.
So the paragraph runs 1, 4, 3, 2. Sentence 1 comes first, sentence 4 second, sentence 3 third and sentence 2 fourth. 'However' cannot follow 'Therefore' here, and 'After that' needs an earlier event to follow, which is why sentence 3 is the third.
