-20 , -16 , -12 , -8 ....
In the sequence above, each term after the first is 4 greater than the preceding term. Which of the following could not be a term in the sequence?
Answer: D
Correct answer: 762
Every term is 4 more than the last and the first is \( -20 \), so every term is a multiple of 4. Testing the options: \( 220 = 4\times55 \), \( 440 = 4\times110 \) and \( 668 = 4\times167 \) all qualify, but \( 762 = 4\times190.5 \) does not. It is even, which is what makes it look plausible, but divisibility by 4 is the test - and the last two digits, 62, are not a multiple of 4.
