The value of
\([(-4) \div 2] \times (-3) - (-3)\,[(-3) \times (-7) - 8]\)
\(+ (4)\,[(-48) \div 6]\)
is
Answer: C
The value is 13.
Work out each bracket first:
\[ \begin{aligned} [(-4) \div 2] \times (-3) &= (-2)(-3) = 6 \\ (-3)[(-3)(-7) - 8] &= (-3)(21 - 8) = -39 \\ (4)[(-48) \div 6] &= 4 \times (-8) = -32 \end{aligned} \]
Then combine them:
\[ 6 - (-39) + (-32) = 6 + 39 - 32 = 13 \]
The trap is the sign of the middle term: subtracting -39 means adding 39. Treating it as -39 gives 6 - 39 - 32 = -65, and slips of the same kind with the other negative signs lead to the wrong options.
