The value of
\[ \begin{aligned} &\{\overline{1+6}+(14\div 7\div 2)\} \\ &+\left\{(5\times 2^{2}+2)\times\frac{2}{\sqrt{16}}\right\} \end{aligned} \]
is:
Answer: A
The value is 19. Work out each brace. The bar over 1 + 6 groups it as 7, and 14 ÷ 7 ÷ 2 = 1, so the first brace is 7 + 1 = 8. In the second brace, 5 × 22 + 2 = 22 and 2/√16 = 2/4 = 1/2, so it equals 11. The sum is 8 + 11 = 19.
18, 11 and 10 come from dropping the bar or one of the braces.
